Challenge

Consumer confusion around communication of green claims, labels, and visual messages. Lack of guidance on how to make sustainable choices.

Intervention

Expansion/upgrade of existing application (Tudatos Vásárló, Conscious Consumer) presenting product sustainability-related information to guide consumer choices. The application will build on results from the WP2 research regarding the factors influencing consumers’ (un)sustainable food choices to test different ways of presenting sustainability-related information. The app will focus on integrating the needs of older individuals in its design to overcome digital literacy challenges and engage an increasing number of older users.

Expected Impact

Environmental: Transparency on product environmental footprint; increasing environmental awareness; increased awareness of false labelling and greenwashing.

Social: Equal access to sustainability-related information; informed decision-making in food purchase across all population groups; addressing digital divide / digital literacy gap; increasing ethical and sustainable consumption behaviours.

Economic: Increasing trust in food labels; increasing demand for food products with lower environmental impact; increased willingness to pay for sustainable food products.
