Target Group

Various groups, including factors such as education level, income level and geographical situation (rural vs urban)

Challenge

Digital communication and information platform solutions about food sustainability are often designed for educated people with high environmental or social awareness.

Intervention

This intervention will aim to empower citizens’ ability to make decisions, change their food purchase behaviour and inform and increase their knowledge about the food system by organising a European wide digital online hackathon. This hackathon will bring together designers, communication experts, graphic designers, videomakers and social science experts to design and implement solutions to enhance access to and availability of food sustainability-related information.

Expected Impact

Environmental: Increasing environmental awareness; increasing the transparency on environmental impact of
food; increased awareness of false labelling and greenwashing.

Social: Community cohesion; addressing information gap between rural/urban and low education/high education populations on sustainability-related to food and consumer behaviour; development of solutions targeted at vulnerable groups.

Economic: Shifting demand towards sustainable and healthy food; increased willingness to pay for sustainable
